I had to take a moment afterward because I've been modifying my explanation year after year. I added more images, I changed the sequence, etc. only to realize that the whole time they were struggling with the words "increasing" and "decreasing." 🤦🏻♀️ But hey! You live and you learn! I'm glad I had that interaction!

I had someone on Twitter mention that her classmates did not understand the word "process" when learning about photosynthesis so they wrote “Plants eat photosynthesis.” As you mentioned, I think it is important to train teachers how to explicitly teach Tier 2 words. But unfortunately, I have only seen training in Tier 3 word instruction.
